Mineola Fairgrounds a 1/2 mile dirt oval which was originally opened in 1866. The first car race was held in 1922, and midget racing from the 1930s. Very cool. Looks like progressive banking but pretty much the shape as later years. Probably natural dirt and no water truck.
I have heard that the reading fairgrounds speedway was awesome, years ahead of it's time with its sprint car and stock car series.

Over the years, it's been amusing that actual race time has shortened noticeably. When speeds reach 300mph, the Indy500 may only take a little more than an hour and a half! LOL! ... Waiting for when cars 'lose their wheels' and turn into Star Wars Landspeeders and are powered by a 'Mr. Fusion Home Energy Reactor'.

Hm i find only this day the Donkey Sweepstakes át South Milwaukee. One week later was the next Milwaukee Mile át Wisconsin State Fairgrounds

Im not really sure what im looking at at onset, not REALLY sure the track is Milwaukee after being labeled as such, pretty sure it is based on all of the pics ive seen. Can you elaborate? Please dont mistake me for those hoardes of negative ninnies that always gripe on internet. Do you have a reference, im from South Milwaukee AND grew up in West Allis 2 miles from the mile. Don't forget the 1966 12 Hrs of Sebring where his car would not start to begin the race, got it running after all the other cars got a head start, raced to the front, and then his engine quit on him about less than a 1/4 mile from the finish. He was so disappointed that he pushed the car to the finish line causing him to be disqualified.
Any information about this race, the cars, the track would be appreciated, never knew there was a track in Hammond. Ugly flip right at end of video…,did helive?

I was six years old and saw most of these cars at Milwaukee the week following. I specifically remember the six wheel car. I had a toy of Ted Horn and his Maserati;

Saw a vid on another site where a mutt did something similar, and the result was the complete opposite of this. If they valued that little dog's life, they should not have let it anywhere close to those dangerous fireworks.

This is a nice document of Indy 1949. It's a shame that the great Indianapolis favorite for many years passed away before this evnt: Ted Horn. Horn had a fanamibal record at the famed I.M.S. track...seem like he would have finally made "Victory Lane" in the many years he raced there. His tragic untimely death in October, 1948 at the DuQuion dirt mile track took the racing world into another loss. Obvious one thing for sure in all the old time auto racing films that fans should admire is how daring these guys were with little if any body protection on them. Thank God, that in time ( the 1950's) the need for track safety and driver safety came into play.
